We are representatives and distributors of buoys Utibuoys
manufactured by Urethane Technologies, Inc. wich include marine
lanterns, RACON's and other components from different manufacturers.
Teh buoys are manufactured with a closed cell,
cross linked polyethylene foam sheets that are heat laminated (i.e. no glue)
together and then machined to the proper shape.
The foam is then coated with a thick, very tough,
elastomeric Seathane polyurethane protective skin that is reinforced with
Spectra (a 375,000 p.s.i. tensile strength) woven fibers.
We use a 4 lb. / cu. ft. density foam below the water
line and a 2 lb. / cu. ft. density foam above the water line of the buoy.
The buoys will withstand severe collisions.
The floatation foam is protected by our Seathane®
polyurethane skin. This skin has a 500% elongation and a 4500 lb./ sq.
inch tensile strength. On our larger buoys and on buoys that will receive
rough abuse the skin is reinforced with Spectra® fiber which has
a 375,000 lb./ sq. inch tensile strength. Polyurethane protective shin also
has better color retention than rotationally molded polyethylene shells do.
